Kayaking on Blackwater River

Today was the first day we actually had sunny skies and could enjoy the beautiful weather.  We had to finish rigging the kayaks up with all the “stuff” and then it was time to hit the water for our maiden voyage.  I would be lying if I said I wasn’t scared, but once I got on the water, it was great.  We headed down stream to get use to pedaling and using the paddle.  I only got close to logs a couple of times, but was able to get turned around and right back out in the middle.  I have a pole attached to mine so I can attach a camera and take all the pics I want.  Since I was scared of capsizing, I only took the point and shoot this time. Didn’t want to take a chance of ruining one of my better quality cameras.  Better to be safe than sorry.  Of course once I was out on the water and getting the maneuvering down pat, I wished I had the other camera with a more powerful zoom lens.

Below are several pics that I took while out including a couple of a not so friendly pet…a snake that was in a tree.  I got as close as I dared.  Had I had my other camera I could have gotten a lot closer with the zoom lens.  Me and snakes do not go together as to me the only good snake is a dead one.

One thing I did discover is we must get anchors so I can anchor down in order to be able to fish as I’m not good at constantly moving about.  I can multi-task at some things, but too scared on the water to do too much at once especially when I can’t see bottom and have no idea what might be lurking in the water.

Wouldn’t about to get too close.
