Before married life began we took a trip to Santa Monica, CA for the BCS National Championship game as fans for Florida State University. Having lived in Tallahassee, I am a big fan of FSU. When Greg and I met the November prior to this time of the year, after seeing our winning streak and it looking like FSU really was headed to a championship game, he asked if I would go to California with him. Him being a fan of the SEC and more specifically Tennessee, I was surprised he asked, but I would soon learn that this man loved me more than anything and he was definitely sent from heaven above.

We left on January 3rd bound for Santa Monica, CA. We had a bought a package deal that would provide transportation from our hotel to Pasadena where the game was to be played. Our hotel was in walking distance to the Santa Monica Pier. The beach was beautiful and getting to watch the sunset with my fiance’ was breath-taking. Greg had proposed before we left for our trip of a lifetime. Sharing this moment with Greg was one of the biggest highlights of my life. The funniest moment was during the game and we had 11 seconds to go on the clock and the couple sitting next to us had been a treat to listen to. The husband was telling the wife that we won, we won, and she insisted that until the clock was at zero anything could happen and she was not getting excited and believing we were the National Champions until is was over. I’ll never forget how excited I felt when the clock finally read 0:00 and we were “officially” the National Champions.

Our return trip home hit a few snags as the flight out of Pasadena to San Diego got cancelled, so they could either bus us to San Diego or we would have to get another flight. The San Diego flight was supposed to take us to Dallas. We ended up having to stay the night again and taking a flight the next day to Dallas and then on to Nashville. It was one of the longest days of my life, but knowing that we were coming home as football champions made the layover and struggles easier to bear.

The walk down to the pier was easy…it was the walk back up that almost killed me. The views at sunset were breathtaking. I can’t wait to get back out to California to see more of this kind of stuff.

The Rose Bowl was not what I expected but it was surreal being in this arena.

The band was outstanding as always. To be honest, I enjoy the bands more than watching the game.
