A Time to Give Thanks

Today is a day for all of us to be thankful for what we have and this week I am thankful that I still have my husband. I rushed him to the ER on the 16th as he was having the same pains he had when his colon ruptured in 2016, so our fear was that we were fixing to relive a nightmare. Instead the EKG showed a blip that the ER doctor was concerned about and wanted him to have a stress test. Unfortunately, they couldn’t do it until Monday so he would have to stay in the hospital the rest of the weekend. He decided he didn’t want to do that, so we left. On Monday he called his primary care physician who got the test scheduled for the 22nd. I got a call after his appointment saying he was being transferred to the ER and I needed to come immediately. I had no idea what was going on.

Again, we were told that something was going on with his heart and he would need a heart catherization. The only problem was it couldn’t be done until Monday, so he would need to stay in the hospital until then so they could keep him closely monitored. That was the longest weekend in history. Come Monday, he has the procedure and we find that he had 99% blockage in the main artery. They put a stint in and he says he feels better than he has in months. Now we wait to see if the stint rejects and how long it will last. With that much blockage you would think they would have done bypass surgery instead.

For the past six months we have been worried about my heart only to find out there was nothing wrong and his was blocked. He never knew he had any type of heart disease and it doesn’t run in his family. He is now on a low sodium diet that he hates.

Luckily we were home in time for Thanksgiving, so I cooked up a few of our favorites and we had a great meal. I watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade and had a leisurely day.
